A session captures the full timeline of a clinical encounter, from opening greeting to closing plan. Start a session at the beginning of your consultation and end it when the encounter concludes.

Before you start

1. Prepare your workspace

  1. Open Quiver Transcribe
  2. Create a new transcription session
  3. Select the appropriate template for this encounter type
  4. Position your device where you can glance at it without disrupting rapport
Place your device at eye level or slightly below. This lets you monitor the session status while maintaining natural eye contact with your patient.
Follow your organization’s requirements for patient notification and consent before recording clinical conversations.

3. Start recording

Press the start button when you’re ready to begin the consultation. The session will capture audio from this point forward.

During the consultation

Speak naturally

You don’t need to change your consultation style. Quiver Transcribe works with your normal speaking patterns, phrasing, and clinical vocabulary. Continue your usual workflow:
  • Conduct the history and examination as normal
  • You do not need to pause to type, examine, or review results
  • Use your typical clinical language and abbreviations

Multiple speakers

Quiver Transcribe distinguishes between different voices in the room:
  • Clinician and patient — The system captures both sides of the conversation
  • Family members — Contributions from relatives or caregivers are included
  • Interpreters — Interpreted conversations are captured as spoken
For best results:
  • Speak one at a time when possible
  • Keep responses directed and clear
  • Avoid significant overlapping speech

Language and code-switching

Speak in whatever language you normally use during consultations:
  • Single language — Use your primary clinical language throughout
  • Code-switching — Switch between languages naturally as the conversation requires
  • Multilingual encounters — Continue naturally if the conversation moves between languages
When you review the summary note, pay extra attention to details that may be sensitive to phrasing or translation, especially medication names, dosages, and safety instructions.

Ending the session

Pre-flight check

Before stopping the session, mentally verify you’ve covered:
  • ✓ Chief complaint and symptom timeline
  • ✓ Relevant medical history and current medications
  • ✓ Examination findings and test results
  • ✓ Assessment and differential diagnosis
  • ✓ Treatment plan and prescriptions
  • ✓ Safety netting and red flag instructions
  • ✓ Follow-up timing and responsibilities

Stop recording

Press the stop button when the clinical encounter is complete. The session ends and processing begins immediately.

What happens next

After you end the session:
  1. Processing — Quiver Transcribe analyzes the conversation and generates a structured summary
  2. Summary creation — The note is formatted according to your selected template
  3. Review — You review and edit the summary for accuracy and completeness
  4. Finalization — You save the final note to your medical record system
Summary generation typically takes 30-60 seconds. You can navigate away and return to the summary later from your History.
